Today, I shipped something I am really proud of. Hands down, the most complex thing I have ever built.
It’s an asset tracker with a targeting engine. It sounds simple until you start asking all of the right questions and understanding the reality.

What’s my source? There are 3 and growing.

What source wins? That depends.

What if the way we track changes over time? It does. If it hasn’t, you haven’t been around long enough.

How many assets do we need to install today to hit our period’s target? I built a targeting engine for that.
The asset tracker and targeting engine had lived in Power BI for the past 2 years. It had outgrown it, both in sheer size and demand for these numbers to be surfaced in various locations.
The building process forced me to deal with scattered queries for all of the requests over the past couple of years. It made validation and matching the existing source of truth a real challenge.
Now, it’s done. We have an immutable, single source of truth that we can stand on no matter what the stage.
