Wait a minute! The notification is closed, but the work order is pending?! But, I thought this was done.
Anyone in operations is familiar with the pattern. Disjointed data from multiple sources, no wholistic single source of truth.
The people actually doing the work only have a partial picture of what’s going on. The sad part is that it takes analyst level skills to get a true picture of what’s happening.
So, I started dreaming.
- What if the person doing the work had entire view of what they were responsible for, beginning to end?
- What if it was sortable and filterable enough, that their workload was huge, they could filter into manageable chunks then start there?
- What if there were flags on critical projects, with time context so they knew what was expired or getting ready to expire, so there was a clear hierarchy of what to work on first?
With the dream in place, I started building for the people doing the work, the thing that I wish I had when I was in their shoes.
I built this tool in 2022. It’s still in use today.
